Delaware House passes Delaware State University scholarship program

The News Journal • July 1, 2010

DOVER — Legislation to create a scholarship program for high-achieving students to attend Delaware State University passed the House on Wednesday night and was sent to the Senate for consideration.

House Bill 399, sponsored by Rep. Darryl Scott, D-Dover North, would create the Inspire Scholarship Program.

Scott’s Inspire Scholarship is modeled after the SEED program, which already provides scholarships for high-school graduates to Delaware Technical & Community College.

In order to qualify for the six-semester scholarship, a student would have to graduate from high school with a minimum cumulative average of 80 percent or a grade-point average of 2.75 or higher.

The students also would have to complete at least 10 hours of community service per semester.
